Fleas
Identifying Fleas:
Fleas of adult size are wingless and measure about 2.5 mm long. They are a shiny and reddish brown coloring.
Fleas depend on a host to survive, so most fleas are introduced into our homes via pets or other mammals. The most effective ways to keep fleas from entering our homes is eliminating outdoor flea habits and outdoor hosts, and even using chemical products approved by the veterinarian.
Infestation of Fleas:
Adult fleas are easy to locate due to size and their rapid movement. The flea eggs, larvae and pupae are rather different since they are less active. Instead they can be found under furniture, inside cracks and grooves in the floors, and in carpets.
Paying close attention to your pet's’ behavior can indicate if fleas are present. Pets who repeatedly scratch are usually due to the discomfort caused by flea activity. This experience can also be shared by people that may leave behind itchy bite marks. Also examine areas for flea dirt and adult flea feces as they can indicate activity.
