Millipedes
Identifying Millipedes
The most common millipedes in the New York area are brownish and are about 2.5 to 4cm in length. Millipedes are segmented and composed of two pair of legs per segment.
Millipedes normally live outdoors and in the damp places. If they are found near your home they will be in the garden areas. They can also live in piles of leaves, grass, under mulch, dog houses and storage sheds. In the autumn, they migrate out of their habitats to get ready for winter. During these migrations, millipedes in search of shelter find their way into residential areas.
Signs of a Millipede Infestation
Other than the sightings of the millipedes, there are not many distinct signs of their presence.
